(GSM Insider) - Sony and Motorola Preparing Low Cost Devices Powered by MediaTek MT6589 Quad-Core
Since the launched of MT6589 by MediaTek, there were rumours stated many manufacturers interested in this low cost quad-core processor for their devices.
TCL P600 and TCL Y900 are among the first few devices that powered by MediaTek MT6589. These two smartphones were unveiled two weeks before in China.
According to source from China, both Sony and Motorola are testing the MediaTek MT6589. After the testing is completed, there will be more quad-core devices with lower price coming soon. The source added that LG also interested in this low cost processor as well.
Other manufacturers like Lenovo, TCL, Huawei, Gionee, ZTE, Coolpad and Vivo are among the manufacturers that interested in the MediaTek MT6589 processor. Most of those companies are based in China because low budget devices are suitable for the Chinese market.
MediaTek MT6589 is based on Cortex-A7 architecture, the frequency between 1GHz to 1.2GHz, supports LDDR2 RAM, supports 720p display resolution, supports WCDMA and TD-SCDMA network, supports 13-megapixels camera and supports 1080p Full HD video playback. MediaTek MT6589 has integrated PowerVR SGX544 GPU.
