(GSM Insider) - Huawei Is World's Third Largest Smartphone Manufacturer, But Still Far Behind Samsung And Apple.
Finally, IDC unveiled the numbers. Huawei officially the world's third largest smartphone manufacturer in terms of shipments and market share.
For the Q4 2012, Samsung shipped 63.7 million units of smartphone followed by Apple with 47.8 million units and Huawei with 10.8 million units. Further behind are Sony that shipped 9.8 million units and ZTE with 9.5 million units. The combination of other manufacturers shipped 77.8 million units.
For the market share, Samsung owns 29%, Apple with 21.8% while Huawei with 4.9%. But Sony and ZTE are not far behind with 4.5% and 4.3% respectively. Other manufacturers are having 77.8% of market share.
Although the market share of Apple remains in second place with 21.8% for Q4 2012, it has been declining from 23% on the same quarter a year before. Samsung, Huawei, Sony and ZTE are enjoying the increase in market share for the Q4 2012 when compared to Q4 2011. Other manufacturers are declining in market share as well.
Strong performance from Huawei, Sony and ZTE replaced the LG, HTC and Motorola as the top five smartphone manufacturer along with Samsung and Apple.
