(GSM Insider - December 22, 2012)) - HTC Set To Slash Devices Shipment To Half Due To Weak Demand
One and half year back, HTC was the king of all smartphone as its dominated the market, especially the Android market. Samsung, LG and Sony on the rising as time goes on. And now, HTC no longer the leader the of smartphone and Android market. The performances of HTC on the declining started from beginning of this year due to low demand in its HTC One Series.
According to analyst of the industry, HTC set to re-plan the product shipments for the year 2013. HTC suffers from the threat from iPhone and the price of smartphone in China getting lower and lower. Take a look at the XiaoMi Phone 2 which costs around RMB $1999 (USD $333) in China. It packs with the specs as fast as the LG Nexus 4. It is essential for the Taiwanese company to remain competitive by introducing low pricing devices.
Supposely, HTC planned the shipments on around 20-30% for the year 2013. Due to so many threats from the industry, there are possibilities that HTC slashed the shipments to only 10-15% after all. However, HTC yet to comment on this predictions.
HTC turns its attention to Windows Phone devices with the introduction of HTC 8X and HTC 8S after failed to impress in the Android market. However, it is not going to tackle down the leader of Windows Phone - Nokia in near future. It is a difficult recovery route for HTC in the smartphone market.
