(GSM Insider) - 2012 is definitely not a good year for Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC. The sales was not impressive in this year and the shares continue dropping. It was not impressive after all for everyone at HTC.
Year 2012, Galaxy S3 and other Samsung brand Android smartphones recorded high sales. This led Samsung to become the king of smartphone and dominate the world smartphone market. In the past one year, 17. 3 billion revenue and the total revenues of all its mobile business recorded 45 billion.
However, Samsung was not the leader of smartphone a year before, 2011. It was HTC that stood on the top of smartphone market. But how come the scene changed so fast?
Last year, the sales of HTC dropped 36% and the revenues dropped as well. What a bad year for HTC in the smartphone market.
One thing we never understand is how come HTC unable to compete with Samsung? The HTC One X same level with Samsung Galaxy S3 as both with quad-core, 1GB of RAM, Android 4.0 and 8 mega-pixels of camera. Whats wrong with HTC?
Two possible mistakes that done by HTC:
1. HTC never spent enough for its promotions. HTC said that the promotions budget of Samsung was far more than the amount spent by HTC. But seems like it really worth for it. Samsung spending money to create viral video in order to create awareness but HTC decided not to do any special promotions on it. HTC prefers to "quietly brilliant". Seems like being quiet is no longer the advantage for HTC.
2. Not enough partnerships with mobile operator. Seriously, HTC One X only available for AT&T in the United States. But others not getting the HTC One X. Instead of HTC One X, HTC provided One S to T-Mobile and One V to Sprint. Whats wrong with HTC? Why cant they just followed the method of Samsung by introduced Galaxy S3 to all different networks. HTC One X just available for one network? Will someone change the network because of HTC One X? Probably no.
