Do you believe that all the bad things will arrive at the same time? At least what happened to Apple showed that all bad things indeed arrived at the same time.

The stock price of Apple falling for the past few days while another bad news arrives at the Cupertino based company. Petroleum company Exxon Mobil surpasses Apple as the world's most valuable company. The value of Exxon Mobil stands at $417.38 billion while Apple is valued at $414.04 billion. Apple dominated at the top spot since August 2011.

(GSM Insider) - Microsoft Rakes In $21.5 Billion Revenue For Q4 2012, Windows Revenue Increased 24% Year-on-Year.

Since the launched of Windows 8 and Windows RT, these two operating systems received positive and negatives comments. There were analysts stated that Windows RT isn't relevant for users and some people not even known what is Windows RT. 

As for the Windows 8, there were users stated that it isn't as user-friend as the Windows 7 and Windows Vista. With such criticism on Windows 8 and Windows RT, how about the financial of Microsoft?

Microsoft announced on Tuesday that it recorded $21.46 billion for the quarter ending on December 31, 2013 as it increased from $20.89 billion in the same quarter for year 2011. 

The good news is the Windows division enjoying the revenues as well. The revenues have increase 24% to $5.88 billion in total. 

Although there were criticisms on the Windows 8 and Windows RT, Microsoft successfully recorded the high revenues as the Windows division still an important asset for the company that is based in Redmond.

(GSM Insider) - Q4 2012 Financial Report: Samsung Records $52 billion In Revenue, $8.27 billion In Profit.

After Samsung emerged as the world's largest mobile phone maker, it successfully gained a lot of attention from consumers as well as market analysts. Majority of the Android devices in the market are Samsung brand especially the Samsung Galaxy S3.

Samsung reported its Q4 2012 financial report and revealed that it recorded more than $52 billion in revenue from various business. Its not only the Samsung Mobile division. On the other hand, Samsung recorded a health profit of $8.27 billion for the quarter and $27 billion in total for year 2012.

Samsung not only involving in the smartphone and tablet market, it also selling the notebooks as well. With the consumers demanding for the gadget more than the notebook, Samsung could experience declines of its computing business although the mobile business on the growth.

(GSM Insider) - Apple Still Dominates US Market With 51 Percent, Android With 44.2 Percent.

No doubt that the sales of Samsung is twice as much as Apple in global phone market. But Samsung is yet to conquer the Apple's home country, United States

According to latest stats from Kantar, From September 23 to December 23, 2013, Apple's iPhone still dominates the United States smartphone market with 51.2 Percent while Android is behind with 44.2 Percent. 

Most of the iOS users are using the Verizon network. But AT&T still leading the US market with 33.2 percent follows by Verizon with 32 percent. Seems like Samsung need to work harder to conquer the United States.

Google Q4 2012 Financial Report: Revenues Hit $14.42 Billion, Increased 36% Year-on-year

(GSM Insider) - Google Q4 2012 Financial Report: Revenues Hit $14.42 Billion, Increased 36% Year-on-year .



World largest search engine, Google just released its Q4 2012 financial report. The report reveals that the revenues hit $14.42 billion for that particular quarter (not include Motorola). The revenues put them up 36% year-on-year and 8% up quarter-on-quarter. Google also hit $50 billion in revenue for the first time, which Larry Page CEO called “not a bad achievement in just a decade and a half.”


Google did mention on Motorola in that mobile revenue was $1.51 billion. Google has about $48.1 billion in cash.

Temple Run 2 Hits 20 Million Downloads On iOS In Four Days

(GSM Insider) - Temple Run 2 Hits 20 Million Downloads On iOS In Four Days.

Temple Run 2 is the latest high addicted game from the iMangi Studio. It was released to Apple App Store a few days ago but it is yet to release the Android version. 

Temple Run 2 successfully recorded 6 million downloads in 24 hours and more than 20 million downloads in just four days. Seems like the Temple Run 2 will able to catch up on the Angry Birds.

In context, Angry Birds successfully recorded 10 million downloads in just three days. The Temple Run 2 is definitely surpasses the record of Angry Birds at App Store. 

The Temple Run 2 for Android will available at Google Play on January 24, 2013.

China Mobile Loses 2.5 Million Subscribers On December Last Year

(GSM Insider) - China Mobile Loses 2.5 Million Subscribers On December Last Year.

According to the latest stats from China Mobile, the world's largest carrier by subscriber having 3.9 million new subscribers and 3G subscriber increases 5.5 million. 

From these stats, it showed that China Mobile loses more than 2.5 million subscribers. Its kinda disappointed.

Analysts did give their views on this issue. This is probably the launched of iPhone 5 at China Telecom and China Unicom. The latest iPhone successfully attracts more subscribers switch to the WCDMA and CDMA2000 network.

China Mobile is the only carrier that not offering the iPhone 5. Apple is yet to release any iPhone 5 that compatible with the TD-SCDMA and TD-LTE network of China Mobile.

LG Optimus G Hits 1 Million Mark

(GSM Insider) - LG Optimus G Hits 1 Million Mark.

LG Optimus G is the latest flagship from the Korean company. Do you know that the LG Nexus 4 was built based on the LG Optimus G? The answer is yes. 

According to news from Korea, LG Mobile just announces that the LG Optimus G recorded 1 million units sales in global market. This 1 million looks like a good figure. But the sales of this LG Optimus G are still far lower than the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S3.

LG Mobile also announces that this quad-core device is heading to China and other European countries on Q1 2013. 

LG Optimus G packs with 4.8-inch 720p HD display, 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core and 2GB of RAM. It remains unknown whether the newer LG Optimus G will feature Android 4.1 Jelly Bean or 4.0 ICS as the Jelly Bean already starting to roll out in Korea

The CES 2013 was over. It achieved a huge record as there were more than 150,000 attendees for the event held in Las Vegas. 


The crowds were one of the biggest in the history of CES. The CES floor is as large as 24 football fields with more than 3000 exhibitors. The 150,000 attendees this year were close to the 156,000 attendees last year.

Survey: 35% of Smartphone Owners Use Device While Driving

(GSM Insider) - Survey: 35% of Smartphone Owners Use Device While Driving.

In a "Mobility of the Future" survey by McKinsey & Company on two thousand drivers, 35 percent of responded revealed that they do use their smartphone during driving. 

Out of the drivers who admitted, 89 percent said they use their device for calls, 68 percent for navigation, 39 percent for instant messaging and 31 percent to check email or surf the internet. 

Using smartphone during driving is a very dangerous act. It is good if drivers can concentrate on driving rather than using smartphone at the same time. GSM Insider advises all reader never using smartphone during to to ensure safety journey.

(GSM Insider) - Samsung Galaxy S Series Hits 100 Million Units Sales To-Date.

Samsung as the king of Android needs to thanks for the Galaxy S Series performance. The Samsung Galaxy S smartphones achieved 100 million units to-date. Off course the numbers still growing. 


On Monday, Samsung announced that it has sold more than 100 million units of Samsung Galaxy S Series smartphones. That includes the Samsung Galaxy S, Samsung Galaxy S2 and Samsung Galaxy S3. Thats not all as include Samsung Galaxy S Advance, Samsung Galaxy S Plus, Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini and etc. 

The Korean company said that it sold 41 million units of Samsung Galaxy S3, 40 million units of Samsung Galaxy S2 and 25 million units of the original Samsung Galaxy S. 

With Samsung Galaxy S3 as the flagship for Samsung, the sales should higher in the coming months when Samsung updated with new numbers.

In Europe: iPhone 5 Transferred Largest Amount of Data, Follows by HTC Sensation XL and Samsung Galaxy S3

(GSM Insider) - In Europe: iPhone 5 Transferred Largest Amount of Data, Follows by HTC Sensation XL and Samsung Galaxy S3.

Research company Arieso found on that the iPhone 5 transferred largest amount of data among European countries.


After observed more than 1 million 3G users for 24 hours, Arieso found out that iPhone 5 transferred most data which is three or four times of iPhone 3G and also twice more than the iPhone 4S. The second position belongs to HTC Sensation XL and follows by Samsung Galaxy S3, around 3 times more than iPhone 3G. 

The uploaded data and downloaded ratio is 1:6, which means users downloaded more than uploaded. Samsung Galaxy S3 uploaded the most data, follows by iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy Note 2

Recently, Nokia reveiled its financial report for the 4th quarter 2013. The financial report showed the numbers that are higher than expected. At the 4th quarter alone, Nokia successfully shipped 4.4 million units of Nokia Lumia devices. However, Nokia Lumia devices not only everything for Nokia. 


If you think Nokia depends on Lumia devices to survive, then you are wrong. Nokia Asha devices are important to Nokia as well.

In the recent Q4 financial report revealed, Nokia Asha devices achieved higher shipment than the Nokia Lumia devices. Nokia Lumias with Windows Phone might be the main stream for the Finnish company, but Nokia Asha devices did its part as well.

At Q4 2013, the shipment of Nokia Asha devices reached 9.3 million units. This sales was twice more than the Nokia Lumia devices with 4.4 million units only. This showed that Nokia still able to compete in the entry level market.

Nokia Asha devices are the entry level that running on Series 40 OS. Seems like Nokia Asha devices still competitive in the entry level.

Nokia Sold More Than 14 Million Units of Lumia Windows Phone To-Date

(GSM Insider) - Nokia Sold More Than 14 Million Units of Lumia Windows Phone In Year 2012.

When Nokia opted for Windows Phone and Android, there were criticisms on its choice. Finally, Nokia achieved something and proved those analysts wrong. 


The financial result of Nokia for Q4 2012 just released. It showed that Nokia sold 4.4 million units of Nokia Lumia Windows Phone for that period. It is quite impressive for them. So, the answer is Nokia sold how many Nokia Lumia until now? The answer is more than 14 million units 

These are the numbers provided by Nokia financial report:

Q4 2011 - More than 1 million units

Q1 2012 - 2 million units

Q2 2012 - 4 million units

Q3 2012 - 2.9 million units

Q4 2012 - 4.4 million units

The sales of Q3 2012 was slightly lower because Microsoft and Nokia announced that the older models are not getting Windows Phone 8 update any time. This caused the possible to fend off from older models and waiting for the arrival of Windows Phone 8 devices.

The Q4 2012 sales exceeded the expectation of Nokia. It is indeed better than many would predicted. With strong growth and interest on Windows Phone, it is believes that the sales of Nokia Lumia will increases as well.

With the sales of XiaoMi Phone 2 is so impressive in China, there are many people outside China that interested in the sales figures of the Chinese company. 


Earlier today, XiaoMi co-founder Li Wanqiang does reveal some numbers about the XiaoMi Phone. XiaoMi Technology successfully ships 7.19 million units of devices in the year 2012 alone. The revenue before tax is about RMB $12.6 billion. This is the first time XiaoMi reveals its financial status.

The co-founder stated that the calculation started from January 12th, 2012. For the year 2012, the average price of XiaoMi Phone is around RMB $1752.

He wrapped up by stated that 70% of the sales of XiaoMi Phones in 2012 were came from online selling.

Apple just releases the statement regarding the apps in the App Store. The apps in App Store hits 775, 000 apps in total.


The Apple's App Store just records 40 billion downloads milestone. In the December 2012 alone, there were 2 billion downloads. This is a record breaking month as the apps were downloaded for most during that single month.

With the overall apps reached 775,000 apps and growing, 300,000 apps are now optimized for tablet, iPad. So the apps for iPhone are around 475,000 apps in total.

XiaoMi CEO Lei Jun must be a proud person at the moment as its XiaoMi Phone 2 hits 1 million units of sales in China alone. XiaoMi Phone 2 also known as XiaoMi Mi2 or XiaoMi M2 in local market.


XiaoMi Phone 2 was on sale a few times in last year and it was sold out no long after it was available. After a few rounds, XiaoMi Phone 2 successfully accumulated 1 million units of sales. This is kinda impressive for a Chinese company.

XiaoMi Phone 2 is yet to launch globally although its CEO has a big plan for its handset. But seems like it was a wise move from XiaoMi CEO by focusing on China at the moment. China is the world's largest smartphone market. 

XiaoMi Phone 2 packs with 4.3-inch 720p HD display, 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and 8-megapixels of rear camera. It was the first device to feature the popular Snapdragon S4 processor from Qualcomm.

(GSM Insider) - Google CEO: Android Far Ahead of Rival, Apple In Smartphone Market.

In recent interviews, Google CEO stated that Android successfully defeated its rivals and leading ahead of the mobile operating system market.


Google CEO Eric Schmidt stated that mobile operating system has changed a lot since the introduction of Android, Android successfully leads the pack in the mobile operating system market. He added that the margin between Android and Apple is getting larger. 

The increases of the market share of Android due to the huge demand. At the same time, the demand for the devices of other mobile OS decreases. So Android increases and other Mobile OS decrease.

Stats from Gartner showed that Android owned 72% of market share in smartphone market while Apple only 14% for the Q3 2012.

Windows 8 Increases To 1.64% On December 2012 But Windows 7 Remains Majority

(GSM Insider) - Windows 8 Increases To 1.64% On December 2012 But Windows 7 Remains Majority.

It has been a few months since the Windows 8 was launched to the market. But the growth is not impressive at all. Many experts were criticized the Windows 8 for being slow in the growth compare to other predecessor. 


According to latest statistics released by Net Applications, Windows operating system holds 91.8% of worldwide OS market share for the month December 2012. Mac OS owns 7.1% and Linux OS owns 1.2%.

The majority of Windows OS is the Windows 7 version with 45.11% followed by Windows XP with 39.08%, Windows Vista at 5.67% and Windows 8 at 1.65%.

Windows 8 increases from 1.09% to 1.64%, Windows 7 increases from 44.71% to 45.11%, Windows XP decreases from 39.82% to 39.08% and Windows Vista decrases from 5.70% to 5.67%.

GSM Insider predicts that Windows 8 and 7 continue in growth for the coming month. The statistics were obtained from 160 million independent users.
