RIP Symbian! As Nokia Announces It Won't Produce Any Symbian Devices In The Future

(GSM Insider) - RIP Symbian! As Samsung Announces Its Won't Produce Any Symbian Devices In The Future.

Still remember the Nokia 5800 with touchscreen and stylus? Or Nokia 6680 which is the first 3G mobile phone with front camera? These two were the powerful Symbian devices from Nokia in the past.

On Thursday, Nokia announced that Nokia 808 PureView is the last device from Nokia that running on Symbian. In other words, Nokia decides killing off the older operating system. As Nokia does not have the intention for Android devices, Windows Phone will become the main operating system.

It has been a long time since the Symbian was introduced to the mobile world. It was once the world no.1 operating system before the arrival of Android. After Google purchased Android, the adoption of Android was so fast and Symbian unable to cope with it.

At last, Nokia decides to drop the Symbian from its devices. Just like previously Nokia dropped the MeeGo from its product line. Former developers of MeeGo at Nokia formed a new company known as the Jolla Mobile and renamed the MeeGo into Sailfish OS. Will we see another Jolla Mobile to save Symbian?
