Its coming to the end of the year and the new year 2013 is arriving in a few hours time. I'm sure that the year 2012 is a wonderful for you and everyone of us at GSM Insider as well. But the coming 2013 definitely better when the technology keep on improving all the time. Its the time for the reviews of GSM Insider's Top 10 Best Smartphones of the Year 2012. 

1. LG Nexus 4


Specs recap: 4.8-inch IPS display with 720p HD resolution, 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, 2GB of RAM, 8-megapixels of camera and 8GB / 16GB of internal memory

Reason: The hottest and most popular Nexus brand smartphone. LG Nexus 4 featuring the blazing fast 1.5GHz S4 Pro quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM which is definitely perfect for multi-tasking. Off course the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean is another attraction point as well. But never rule out the LG Patented Glass Design at the back of the device. It has been sold out for a few times before Google stated that the shipping date set at around 7-8 weeks.

2. Nokia Lumia 920


Specs recap: 4.5-inch PureMotion HD+ display with 1280 x 768 resolutions, 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 dual-core, 1GB of RAM, Windows Phone 8, 8-megapixels PureView camera and 32GB of internal memory.

Reason: This Nokia Lumia 920 is one of the best ever Windows Phone 8 device in the market. The display featuring the PureMotion HD+ display which is exceeds the HD resolution and improved fast scrolling speed. Other than this, Nokia successfully integrated the PureView camera in the device. The camera on the back of Nokia Lumia 920 is considers as the King of Camera due to its super high quality camera. It beats off competitors in the market. Although this was not the first Windows Phone 8 device, but it is definitely the best in the market at the moment. 

3. iPhone 5


Specs Recap: 4-inch display with 1136 x 640 resolution, 1.2GHz A6 dual-core, 1GB of RAM, 8-megapixels of camera, iOS 6, 16 / 32 / 64GB of internal memory and LTE supports.

Reason: The iPhone 5 is definitely the tallest iPhone yet. It features the ever fast blazing A6 dual-core processor that faster than previous iPhones. The smoothness and stability of the operating system in the iPhone 5 is the main reason for consumers to purchase it. It is the best iPhone yet from Apple.

4. Samsung Galaxy S3


Specs Recap: 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display with 720p HD resolution, 1.5GHz Exynos quad-core, 1GB of RAM, 16GB / 32GB of internal memory, 8-megapixels of camera, NFC and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich preloaded. 

Reason: Samsung Galaxy S3 is the best selling Android smartphone of all time. It beats off the record held by the Samsung Galaxy S2. It was sold more than 20 million units in just 100 days on sale. This is a record very hard for the competitors to beat off. This Samsung Galaxy S3 is the best among the another two rivals HTC One X and LG Optimus 4X HD. 

5. Samsung Galaxy Note 2


Specs Recap: 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display with 720p HD resolution, 1.7GHz Exynos quad-core, 2GB of RAM, 16 / 32GB of internal memory, 8-megapixels of camera, NFC and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean preloaded. 

Reason: Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is the best on its phablet category. No one able to challenge the status of Samsung Galaxy Note 2 as the King of Phablet to date. It is also the best device from Samsung at the moment as it features 2GB of RAM which is 1GB extra than the Samsung Galaxy S3. It features the S-Pen stylus which is suitable for all ages of usage. You might think the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 too huge but it remains favourable for many people. 

6. HTC Butterfly


Specs Recap: 5-inch Super LCD with 1080p Full HD resolution, 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 pro quad-core, 2GB of RAM, 8-megapixels of camera, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and 16GB of internal memory and supports micro-SD expansion.

Reason: The HTC Butterfly was launched in Japan as the HTC J Butterfly. It is the first ever Android smartphone to feature 1080p Full HD display resolution. Since then, more devices with 5-inch display and 1080p Full HD resolution were introduced to the market. It opened the market of the 5-inch 1080p phablet. This 5-inch monster featuring the Snapdragon S4 pro quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM. This device is yet to launch globally. 

7. Nokia Lumia 820 


Specs Recap: 4.3-inch AMOLED display with ClearBlack technology, 1GHz Snapdragon S4 dual-core, 1GB of RAM, 8-megapixels of camera, Windows Phone 8, NFC, Wireless Charging and 8GB of internal memory and supports microSD expansion.

Reason: Nokia Lumia 820 was launched together with the Nokia Lumia 920 a few months. The ClearBlack display technology features on this device enable you to view the screen display even on the ultra bright condition (direct sunlight). The processor is dual-core and featuring 1GB of RAM. It is suitable for daily usage along with the 8-megapixels of camera. This Nokia Lumia 820 is said to be the leader of the wireless charging as it opened the wireless charging to the market. Many upcoming smartphones said to feature wireless charging. 8. HTC Windows Phone 8X


Specs Recap: 4.3-inch Super LCD 2 display with 720p HD resolution, 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 dual-core, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory, LTE supports, Windows Phone 8 and 8-megapixels of camera

Reason: This is the first Windows Phone 8 device from HTC. Since the sales performance of HTC One Series was not impressive, HTC hopes that Windows Phone 8X (also known as HTC 8X) able to turn the company around. The introduction of HTC 8X still unable to challenge the status of Nokia as the King of Windows Phone. The back design of HTC 8X is curve design which is similar like the iPhone 3GS. HTC 8X brings best music experience with Beats Audio.

9. HTC One X


Specs Recap: 4.7-inch Super LCD display with 720p HD resolution, 1.5GHz Tegra 3 quad-core, 8-megapixels of camera, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich preloaded and Beats Audio.

Reason: HTC One X was first spotted at the MWC 2012 in Barcelona back in February. It was voted as the best smartphone at MWC 2012 as well. It features the quad-core Tegra 3 processor from NVIDIA and 1GB of RAM. The design of the HTC One X is the main point as the back cover featuring the rubber design so that it wont scratch easily. Although HTC sold off some of its shares in Beats Audio, but this sound enhancement remains exclusively at HTC. 

10. XiaoMi Phone 2


Specs Recap: 4.3-inch IPS display with 720p HD resolution, 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 pro quad-core, 2GB of RAM, 8-megapixels, MIUI V4 based on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and 2000mAh battery.

Reason: Do you know that this is the first ever smartphone that featuring Snapdragon S4 pro quad-core processor? Yes. It is. The size might be smaller but it has a powerful inner specs as the combination of S4 pro and 2GB of RAM. XiaoMi Phone 2 was built based on the MIUI V4 user interface that based on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. If you are living at China, you sure know that the popularity of this device is same high as the devices from other leading manufacturers.
