China Surpassed United States As The World's Largest Android Market


(GSM Insider - December 22, 2012) - China Surpassed United States As The World's Largest Android Market

According to analyst group Infroma, the sale of Android devices set to record 461 million units. 33% of Android devices sold globally were from China market. Informa added that 768 million units of smartphones going to on sale within this year. 

Infroma added that China surpasses United States as the world's no.1 Android market with more than one third of devices sold in the land of Dragon. United States dropped to second place with 11% of devices sold globally from the American country.

According to analyst, the shipments of Android devices going to increase in the future. By 2015, one of two smartphone sold will be Android device. However, Android smartphones going to decline from 2016 as other operating systems like Windows Phone and probably Sailfish OS going to get some market share. The market share of Windows Phone in China at the moment only 1%. 


Since China emerged as the world's Android and smartphone market, more manufacturers are interested to tap on the market by introducing more devices in the future. However, it remains interesting to see how international brands competing with local Chinese brands.
