(GSM Insider) - ST-Ericsson Unveils NovaThor L8580, Uses 50% Less Power Than Competitors.
There are a lot of mobile processor manufacturers in the market that launched their new processor. MediaTek unveiled the MT6589 quad-core, NVIDIA unveiled Tegra 4 quad-core, Qualcomm unveiled Snapdragon 800, 600, 400 and 200 while Samsung unveiled the Exynos 5 Octa. ST-Ericsson is the latest company that launches its new processor.
The latest processor from ST-Ericsson is NovaThor L8580. NovaThor L8580 has four Cortex-A9 cores that each be clocked up to 2.5GHz and will only consume 0.6V of power with normal usage. NovaThor L8580 will use 50% less power than its competitors.
The SoC uses the PowerVR SGX544 graphics from Imagination Technologies running at 600 MHz, which can power displays with resolutions up to 1920×1200. Most important is NovaThor L8580 comes with LTE built in.
Within this year, Huawei also set to launch its Hi-Silicon K3V3 Octa cores processor. But around 2H of 2013.
