Nielsen: Android Market Share Growth In US, iOS Remains Firm

(GSM Insider) - We knew that the Android from Google and iOS from Apple are two of the leading mobile platform at the moment. Although Microsoft hopes to mount challenge on both of them Windows Phone, but it still at the beginning stage. There still long way to go for Windows Phone. With BlackBerry still working on the BlackBerry 10 devices, their performance are not so good at the moment. Nielsen releases latest report of Mobile platform in the United States.

In the second quarter of 2012, Android powered 51.9% of smartphones in the United States. Apple's iOS stands at second position with 34.3%. BlackBerry OS falls further with 8% only. Other operating systems like Symbian, Windows Phone and Bada contributed for 5.9% of smartphones in the US.

In the past three months, 58.6% of those purchased a smartphone chose Android device, 33% chose iOS. There are many new Android devices came into the market while the iPhone 4S already nine months old. This is the reason for falls of iOS market share and growth in Android market share.

With the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, LG Optimus G, Sony Xperia T and new HTC phablet coming soon, we expect those devices gave a brave fight for Apple new iPhone. Windows Phone might not popular at the moment, but we expect it gains more market share with more Windows Phone 8 devices coming to you.  [Source]
